The area surrounding the intersection of Five Points Road and Edgewood Avenue saw a significant increase in residential development which triggered the need to improve the existing 4-way-stop intersection by converting the intersection into a roundabout. Shrewsberry provided roadway design and environmental for the roundabout and the intersection of Five Points Road and Edgewood Avenue.
In close coordination with the City of Indianapolis, Department of Public Works, Shrewsberry determined a more accurate project budget and schedule for the design phase of this intersection.
Engineering design services and elements for the project included maintenance of traffic, hydraulic analysis for large culverts, public outreach and coordination. Careful consideration of utilities, right-of-way, and stakeholder coordination, as well as close proximity to a wetland and cemetery were vital in determining the preferred placement for the roundabout.
