Project Details

Shrewsberry worked with the City of Indianapolis Department of Public Works (DPW) and the City of Lawrence to provide design services for the Lawrence Trades District Drainage Improvements. This project will add new storm sewers and inlets on Sellers Street, Allen Street and Hull Street in the City of Lawrence near Pendleton Pike and I-465 in Indianapolis.

A PCSWMM Version 7.1 by Computational Hydraulics International was used to model the drainage improvements. The model software is based on EPA Stormwater Management Model (SWMM), which has been in continuous use since approximately 1970. The model tied into the Upper Pogue’s Run Regional Detention Basin project downstream and utilized the same type of modeling to merge the two projects together to see the cumulative benefits of the drainage improvement projects.

Challenges to the project included limited cover, requiring the use of 45” x 29” horizontal elliptical concrete pipe. The project included over 1500 feet of new storm sewer, 400 feet of hybrid ditch, and 20 new structures. Public meetings were held with property owners and easements were obtained. Construction is scheduled for 2020.
