Shrewsberry is the Landscape Architect of Record for the State Street Redevelopment Project, as a key contributing member of the Plenary Roads State Street (PRSS) Team, which is a partnership between the City of West Lafayette, Purdue University and the Purdue Research Foundation.
The State Street Redevelopment Project is a complex $120M corridor improvement project located within a major college campus, embracing an urban entertainment and central business district, separate riverfront retail development, and multiple roadway corridors. The improved roadway corridors form a perimeter loop road around the Purdue University campus and the State Street spine connecting the campus core with adjacent entertainment and retail districts.
As the Landscape Architect, Shrewsberry will ensure that the design meets the anticipated aesthetic goals, incorporates various design elements that promote a multi-modal roadway and bring vibrancy to the streetscape. Bringing to the project an eye for proportion, scale and appropriateness of selected materials, our team will utilize its ability to communicate across design disciplines to ensure efficient and cost effective implementation of the construction plans. As part of the State Street corridor, Shrewsberry landscape architects are superintending the transformation to a ‘Complete Street’ emphasizing pedestrian, bicycle and mass transit in addition to vehicular travel. Key highlights of this transformation include reduction in vehicular travel lanes, a separate urban bikeway corridor, enhanced sidewalks, pedestrian gathering areas and safety improvements and most importantly a tight timeframe for completion in advance of Purdue’s 150-year anniversary.
