Project Details

The main entrance to the IUPUI Library was in need of a make-over as the dated clay pavers were crumbling and becoming hazardous to the high pedestrian traffic load. Shrewsberry was commissioned to bring this space into the new millennium.

New clay pavers were designed on a grid with banding and a herringbone pattern reflecting patterns in the architecture, and re-graded for better drainage. Further issues were improved with the addition of canopy trees for much needed shade to this open area along with understory trees and daffodils for spring color and visual interest.

This entrance has the only two ADA accessible entrances to the entire building, so the challenge during construction to maintain an accessible entrance at all times was accomplished successfully with creative phasing.
