Indianapolis, IN, March 9, 2017 – The American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) of Indiana awarded Shrewsberry & Associates, LLC a State Finalists Award at their 2017 Engineering Excellence Awards Luncheon held at the Marriott North Hotel in Indianapolis, IN on March 2nd.
The Engineering Excellence Awards are presented annually by ACEC Indiana to recognize engineering achievements, which demonstrate the highest degree of merit and integrity, by Indiana consulting engineering firms. Entries are judged based on engineering excellence, which includes: uniqueness and originality; future value to the engineering profession; social, economic and sustainable design considerations; complexity; and exceeding the owner’s/client’s needs. The State Finalists Award recognizes those entries that demonstrate initiative and ingenuity in the field of engineering.
Shrewsberry & Associates submitted an entry for its engineering design services performed on the Indianapolis 75th & Keystone Septic Tank Elimination Program (75th & Keystone STEP Project). The City of Indianapolis has over 17,000 homes served by private septic systems, many of which are failing, allowing human waste to seep into groundwater, backyards, and local rivers. Citizens Energy Group’s (Citizens) Septic Tank Elimination Program (STEP) is intended to eliminate private septic systems by extending sanitary sewers to these homes. In 2015, Citizens modified their STEP program by utilizing a design/build team and installing only low pressure sewers (LPS). The 75th & Keystone STEP project, which included approximately 430 homes located within the flood zone of the White River, was the first large project to utilize the design/build format with LPS.
Shrewsberry & Associates is a DBE/MBE/VBE engineering and consulting firm founded by Bill Shrewsberry in 2001 with corporate headquarters in Indianapolis, Indiana.
