The Blue Line will be the third Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) service in the Indianapolis Metropolitan Area, connecting downtown with the Town of Cumberland and the Indianapolis International Airport. The line will run east-west on Washington Street and will continue the trend set by the Red Line and Purple Line as being a battery based all-electric Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system.
The project is planned to be open for service by the end of 2021. Shrewsberry’s transportation engineers are providing transportation design services and traffic analysis for Segment 5 of the Blue Line which consists of US 40/Washington Street from Shadeland Avenue to Cumberland. Shrewsberry is the design authority for Segment 5 and will take the design from 0-100%. Details will include BAT (Business Access and Transit) lanes, left or right lane running, reconfiguration of existing lanes, and new bus station locations.
