Shrewsberry’s Landscape Architecture and Site Civil Team is responsible for all exterior site improvements for the renovation of Indianapolis’ Gainbridge Fieldhouse. The design will include the expanded and re-envisioned exterior plaza activating the arena district and providing connections to the Cultural Trail, the Transit Center, and Georgia Street. The plaza will also function as an added amenity and gathering space on game days, as well as a community asset providing desirable attractions year-round.
The site design will activate this popular pedestrian-centric part of the City as a venue for seasonal events to include a tiered gathering area and flexible space for summer games, concerts and events in warmer months, as well as a recessed ice-skating rink and winter-focused activity zone. Site security is an important to the plaza design balancing function, design aesthetics, and safety requirements. The activated site provides a platform for the new Fieldhouse of the Future, and a home for year-round activity and entertainment within the urban core of downtown Indianapolis.
